The Birdwatchers Project is a collaboration between Julia Wachs Designs and Manderley Makes. Originally delivered as a block-of-the-month program, this quilt features 14 stunning foundation paper-pieced birds. Now, all blocks are available from each of our websites.
The birds in this quilt are inspired by the board game, Wingspan, designed by Elizabeth Hargrave and sold by Stonemaier Games. The game artwork is done by Natalia Rojas and Ana Maria Martinez Jaramillo. These patterns are not an official Stonemaier Games product.
Julia and Jennifer each sell the 7 birds they designed. Every bird pattern is $8, or get all 7 from either designer as a bundle for $42.

Ruby-Throated Hummingbird$8Every bird is designed to one of five block sizes, labeled A through E. Any bird can be swapped for another bird of the same size, so you can mix and match to make the quilt your own. With all 14 original birds and the finishing instructions included with each pattern, the throw quilt finishes at 69" square.

Julia is a quilter who loves to design using foundation paper piecing and applique. She started designing her own quilt patterns in earnest during the height of the pandemic as a creative escape, which opened a new world of owning a creative business alongside working full time at an aerospace company. She now is a full time quilter.
Jennifer is a Louisville-based modern quilter. She's been quilting for nearly 15 years and started designing her own patterns in 2020 to share with the quilty world via Manderley Makes. She enjoys designing more intricate patterns using both standard piecing and foundation paper piecing techniques.
